«DisEnchanted Boys» es un proyecto sobre la personalidad masculina en el mundo de la fantasía y la realidad. Intento, con ello, explorar la presencia de personajes masculinos, en papeles tradicionalmente femeninos o en actitudes no habituales en lo que se considera propio de los hombres. Sensibilidad, delicadeza, fragilidad, abandono, rendición, tristeza, dulzura, debilidad… son términos que en un hombre suenan inapropiados incluso hoy, y que en una mujer son, como mucho, tolerados, aunque ya tampoco deseables. De la mujer se espera sumisión, pero también resistencia para aguantar lo que le echen. De un hombre se espera potencia, agresividad, empuje, fortaleza… Nuestra sociedad impone tabúes importantes sobre las emociones que no considera deseables, y se las arrebata al entorno masculino aplicándole esos apelativos al mundo femenino, que como bien sabemos, sigue siendo ampliamente despreciado. Sin embargo yo me pregunto: ¿Qué fue antes? ¿El mundo comenzó a tachar a la mujer de «débil y frágil» porque eran condiciones despreciables o se convirtieron en condiciones despreciables porque se le achacaron a la mujer? ¿Empezó esa discriminación de las emociones con las sociedades patriarcales o eran rechazadas desde el principio, cuando suponían un condicionante para la supervivencia? Me inclino a pensar que más bien lo segundo, y que se le achacaron a la mujer posteriormente, durante el alzamiento de las sociedades patriarcales. Sea como sea, la realidad hoy es que los hombres se encuentran emocionalmente mutilados en cualquier manifestación que no implique ser el macho alpha, y que yo quiero explorar todas esas emociones y roles prohibidos. Por eso he empezado Enchanted Boys, un trabajo paralelo a otros con el mismo fondo -que es mi motivo principal a la hora de fotografiar-, pero integrado en un sector que es tradicionalmente parte del mundo del modelaje femenino: La Fantasía; Princesas, hadas, sirenas y ángeles criaturas son mayormente interpretadas y modeladas por mujeres, mientras que al hombre se le reserva un único papel: Guerrero, rey, mago, en suma, detentación del poder… Actualmente hay muchos proyectos que exploran esos papeles dominantes o independientes desde el punto de vista femenino, siendo encarnados por mujeres pero… ¿Por qué nadie investiga el punto contrario? Porque siguen siendo emociones y papeles socialmente despreciados, aunque sean indispensables para una sociedad equilibrada y un mundo emocional interior sano en el que estos papeles debieran ser representados tanto por hombres como por mujeres de un modo completamente natural.

«DisEnchanted Boys» is a project about the male personality in the world of fantasy and reality. I try, with this, to explore the presence of masculine characters, in traditionally feminine roles or in attitudes that are not habitual in what is considered proper to men. Sensibility, delicacy, fragility, abandonment, surrender, sadness, sweetness, weakness … are terms that in a man sound inappropriate even today, and that in a woman are, at most, tolerated, although not already desirable. Submission is expected, but also resistance to endure what they throw at him. A man is expected power, aggressiveness, drive, strength … Our society imposes important taboos on emotions that do not consider desirable, and snatches the male environment by applying those names to the female world, which as we know, is still widely despised. However I ask myself: What was before? Did the world begin to call the woman «weak and fragile» because they were despicable conditions or became despicable conditions because they were blamed on women? Did this discrimination of emotions begin with patriarchal societies or were they rejected from the beginning, when they were a condition for survival? I am inclined to think that rather the second, and that the woman was blamed later, during the rise of patriarchal societies. Be that as it may, the reality today is that men are emotionally mutilated in any manifestation that does not involve being the alpha male, and that I want to explore all those forbidden emotions and roles. That’s why I’ve started Enchanted Boys, a parallel work to others with the same background – which is my main reason when it comes to photographing – but integrated into a sector that is traditionally part of the world of female modeling: La Fantasía; princesses, fairies, sirens and angels creatures are mostly interpreted and modeled by women, while man is reserved a single role: warrior, king, magician, in short, possession of power … Currently there are many projects that explore those roles dominant or independent from the feminine point of view, being incarnated by women but … Why is nobody investigating the opposite point? Because they are still emotions and socially despised roles, although they are indispensable for a balanced society and a healthy inner emotional world in which these roles should be represented by both men and women in a completely natural way.
